Devils Tower and Black Hills KOA in Wyoming
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.Год назад
Devils Tower in Wyoming was just too close to us on this trip to not stop in and see it... and we're glad we did! You don't need a lot of time to visit, but it's definitely worth the stop to see such a unique site that's full of history. You can camp at the Belle Fourche RIver campground actually within the park, or stay at the KOA just outside the entrance like we did. Either way, we'd recomme...
Staying at Buffalo Ridge Camp Resort while visiting Custer State Park, SD

We stayed at Buffalo Ridge Camp Resort for our visit to the Black Hills and Custer State Park (which ended up being one our favorite parks ever) in South Dakota. There are many campgrounds within the park itself, but Buffalo Ridge provided lots of nice amenities and was still a short drive away from Custer. It's also a great place to stay if you are planning to visit Mount Rushmore or Wind Cave...
Hitch Review! PullRite SuperLite 2600 Fifth Wheel/Gooseneck - Great for short bed trucks!

Our PullRite Superlite 2600 20k fifth wheel hitch has worked wonderfully for us, so it's about time we show you why we like it and do a quick review! Ours is for our Ram 3500 short bed with fifth wheel prep, but they also offer a model to be used with rails. It's very similar to the popular Andersen hitch, but I feel this one has a slight edge over it's competitor. What type of hitch do you use...

    Great Video , Thanks for paying attention to the audio and making sure that the annoying wind noise was not an issue. I don't know if you bought a 5th wheel yet but we have a 21 short bed quad cab and tow about 14k 5th wheel (Cat scale number) I was a little concerned about the wheel base of the truck but no issue.... Except for the broken window, I'd day they are all minor issues. Afterall, it's an RV. Isn't your water heater both electric and propane?

      @LivingaLifeFulfilled Месяц назад

      You're right.. all RV's have issues, which is why I like when a brand stands by their product and helps you solve the problems. The water heater is both electric and propane, but it still needs an electronic switch to turn on the propane function and have it work properly. I wasn't about to bypass that just for one trip either!

    How do you calculate your tongue weight?

    • @LivingaLifeFulfilled
      @LivingaLifeFulfilled 7 месяцев назад

      There are a couple of ways... you can actually buy a scale to measure it (there are even hitches with it built in), or what most people do to avoid buying anything extra is go to a truck CAT scale. You need to weigh your truck by itself, and then re-weigh with the trailer attached to see the difference on the truck weight. To do this properly you have to make sure everything is EXACTLY the same in the truck at the time of both weighs, even fuel level, and your trailer is loaded for use. It may not be "to the pound" accurate, but it gets very close.

    The problem i have with your truck vs your camper is size not so much weight. Your camper is like a sailboat having a 35' camper on a truck that comes in at a little over 5000lbs is unsafe in my opinion. Your numbers might be good but the wind resistance on that 35' camper could be very dangerous on windy days or if you get caught in a semi trucks wash. You should stay under 6,000lbs and around under 27' to be safe and your family. You and your family should upgrade the truck. Iv seen trucks and campers flip over right in front of my eyes with a half ton with 30' + campers. Length is just as important as towing these box cars. It so ironic that there is so much focus is on towing capacity and cargo capacity that wind resistance takes a back seat. This truck should not be towing a 35' camper period . Under 28' should be your max. You want bigger then get a 3/4 ton or 1 ton and keep your family as well as you safe. PS: Hight is also a consideration. 1' makes a big difference. Usually the bigger the camper the taller they get. Going from 10' to over 11' makes a big difference. It's the law of physics. The more surface you have the more wind resistance you will get. And that does not hold well for gas mileage. That 1/2 ton is working. Me personally have a 2021GMC elevation. I'm pulling a 2021 wildwood 24 rlxl camper and size weight is perfect for my 1/2 ton. Averaging about 12 to 13 miles a gallon. Just me and my wife and will be camping quite a bit next year and heading to Florida next winter for 4 months. We just bought it this pass Oct. We had a 22' coleman .nice camper but we needed more room if we were going to stay for 4 months in it.

    • @LivingaLifeFulfilled
      @LivingaLifeFulfilled 9 месяцев назад

      I actually fully agree with what you're saying with wind and that a bigger truck would be better (we did upgrade to a 3500 when we could). But I'd also have to add that usually when the trailer gets longer it also gets heavier, so it's more grounded from wind. We towed this combo for 3 years and experienced a LOT of weather conditions and very high wind gusts, so I'd like to add that HOW you drive has a lot to do with it. In high winds you need to slow down and be ready to utilize the trailer brakes to reduce sway. When you try to "push through" the winds at high speed is when bad things happen. Granted there are some gusts that will blow you over no matter what you're towing with (I've seen properly loaded semis topple), but you can definitely counter this. I had just as many white knuckle moments with our 5th wheel and 3500 as I did with the 1500 and travel trailer. Basically what I'm saying is yes, a bigger truck is always better, but in our case this trailer towed great behind our 1500 and handled wind gusts and trucks passing just fine. I've seen smaller trailers with bigger trucks struggle more than I did because of how they were driven. We all have to be smart on the road to protect ourselves and others! Thanks for your comment and input and safe travels!

      @@LivingaLifeFulfilled well you definitely seem to have faith in that 35' camper. I still think your are taking a chance but whatever you feel comfortable. I'm just thinking of a Newby and I think it gives a bad message.

      @@topgun5399 I understand where you’re coming from, but most people commenting have never even felt what a trailer like this tows like, so technically have no experience with what it’s actually like, so it’s based on assumption. I’m just giving my actual experience. It’s possible, you just have to be careful and know what you’re doing, so I’m trying to educate. I’ve moved on from both that truck, and trailer, but while I had them it was great experience and I learned a lot. Again, I do appreciate your comment and willingness to educate newbies as well.

    I’m way late! Lol. I got a 2021 limited 3500 mega cab SRW with a payload of 3895 and tow capacity of 19500. We are towing a cedar creek 38ebs, 41’ 14350lbs empty and 2750lbs hitch weight fifth wheel. It actually towes better, the heavier you go….well a trailair hitch really smooths things out. Nice truck man! I love the murdered out look, ours is pearl white with the night package.

      Yes! Our Verizon was very good. Didn't test other carriers, but heard at&t is good too. I highly recommend using Campendium... cell service is one of the things they track in reviews.

      You may want to double check the manufacturers website, but I don't see any reason why not. As long as you have a flat surface around the pin to attach the adapter.

    We always book ahead for the beach side because yes, the Live Oak side is tight. The dump station is a lot better now, there are three dump hookups in the dump station now and it is much faster than before when there was only one. Also Botany Bay is about a mile away up the road, an old plantation with a protected beach with thousands of shells and beautiful boneyard trees. Then there’s the Environmental Center too. We were there May 2023. Thanks for the video.

    Is there any way to upgrade your towing capacity? Because I want 2023 gmc yukon at4 xl 6.2L v8 engine. Just to pull an RV little bit bigger.

    • @LivingaLifeFulfilled
      @LivingaLifeFulfilled Год назад

      Not really without upgrading your entire suspension, engine, and brakes... and then you might as well get a new vehicle! Weight has a lot to do with towing, and if your trailer is too heavy for your vehicles specs you become very unsafe.

    • @LivingaLifeFulfilled

      Yes I do, or else all the antifreeze will just drain out instead of going through the lines.

    Our Reflection had major issues... slide caught and ripped the floor, 2 windows shattered, water leak in basement area, black tank fell out, and on it went. Issues also with General RV service. Constant headaches and upsetting when we had to cancel trips.

      It's the 3.92, which is one of the reasons we have the higher towing capacity.
